| IMS Vikrant was India's first aircraft carrier and
one of the most important ships that served in the Indian Navy. It
played an instrumental role in defeating Pakistan in the 1971 war.
After a long and meritorious service, it was decommissioned in 1997
and operated as a museum under the aegis of the Apex Coordination
Committee of the Government of Maharashtra and the Indian Navy. IMS
Vikrant is berthed at the Naval Dockyard and open to public viewing
during the Navy Week in December.
The Apex Committee desires to operate the museum in a financially
feasible manner. Towards this end, they desire to select a developer
to operate commercial ventures aboard IMS Vikrant alongside the
museum on PPP basis. Prior to the commencement of commercial operations,
the ship will be berthed at Oyster Rock at Colaba, using the grouting
technique. An approach road and jetty will be constructed at Oyster
Rock to provide access to the ship.
